Approximately 21,250 people applied for the incoming freshman class, of which 4,035 were admitted, contributing to the 2,193 students enrolled in the 2020 incoming freshman class. Notre Dame's academic integrity remains one of the highest in the country, boasting a one-year retention rate of 97.0%. Additionally, 97.0% of first-year students graduate within six years.

University of Notre Dame has 6,857 on-campus beds and houses all freshmen, sophomores and juniors. ​ This leaves approximately 47% of the student body requiring off-campus housing. ​ In addition to Notre Dame, the property also draws residents from St. Mary’s College and Holy Cross College. ​ Combined enrollment for the three colleges is 14,909 students. ​
